On this site, you'll find YAPET (Yet Another Password Encryption Tool) that stores your myriads of passwords in a secure fashion and runs on many Unixes. You might like the other applications I hacked, too.

If you're new to the world of Unix and feel uncomfortable with a command line, take a look at the Unix Survival Guide. Written for beginners, it gives you a good overview about the most basic Unix commands and other Unix topics. It treats the various Unix flavors equally and thus is suited for FreeBSD, Sun Solaris, and Linux operating systems.

Be sure you don't miss the online tools. The ping and portscanner utility served me well on several occassions.
